A few days after I came back from the northest of the earth, I had the opportunity to go to its center, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. There was taking place a festival of muralism in the beautiful island of Sao Miguel.

This travel was some of the most hollyday like I did lately. I had time enough to discover the land and sea, and did really enjoyed its beauty.

I took a few days to visit the island with the friends, learn about some local legends, and couldn’t figure out something that special. I obviously thought about painting a version of Sao Miguel, since it was the name of the island we were on, and i particulary enjoy that story. But I already did a version of it on paper, 4 years ago, and didn’t felt like doing it again. That was not the moment.

So I went to the Ocean. Took a bit more time and figured out that the best way to make something good, was to feel who and where I was and not think to much. Since I was feeling serene with my self, I knew I’ll be able to be good to the people through my Art. So I just painted my state of mind in the most simple and Universal way possible. So that everyone could just feel some peace out of it. And back in his self.

The building I’ve been working on is an huge abandonned factory, with a massive wall that you could see from everywhere in the city. Once I found the composition we went to the shop to create the acrylic colors, somehow inspired by the Nature around. I’m happy I haven`t used any black, but a deep ocean blue. The other colors send to the flowers, plants, sun, sky…and to all what those colors are able to send you to.

On the top of the face, I wrote the letter V and the letter A. I did it as a dual statement to enforce the whole concept, considering the reverse simetry of these two shapes. But also to refer to the color green (Verde), and blue (Azul).
Because I liked a great legend around the two lakes at the west of the island. One is green, the other one is blue. There are variations of the story, but the one I remember is that a king use to live in a castle beside the lakes. He had a daughter and didn’t want her to found Love, I guess because he wanted to keep her as a potential valuable gift for a futur deal he could make with another man of power. Anyway…she escaped and met a man she’ll fall in Love with… but then the king figured it out, and just made it impossible.
The legend says that the water of the lakes are fruit of the tears of the desperate Lovers. She got blue eyes, he got green eyes. It could seem a bit sad, but they’ve been together in the past, and if they been seperated for a time, the lakes are now changing colors, and both seems to tend to a similar color made of blue and green. So somehow, their souls managed to fuse again.
It’s not that much about the Love story, but more about understanding that fusion of two diferent entities, ideas, concepts, often need to go beyond «reason» in order to fuse. Beyond time and space, everything is One.
Here are a few pictures of the wall in the morning, at 7pm, just before I took the plane.

In the end of the festival, we made a little celebration, and we went to a huge high roofed hangar, with an amazing natural reverb, just beside where we ate in the island…and we recorder some freestyle acapella…Hope u’ll enjoy it! Azores, I’ll miss u!
